The Peoria Area Speech-Language Hearing Association (PASHA) meets five times each fiscal year for general meetings. Continuing education programs are planned for four of the five meetings offering members and non-members opportunities for professional development. These programs feature speakers with expertise in areas important to the fields of speech-language pathology and audiology. Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are offered free of charge to PASHA members. Non-members who wish to receive CEUs are asked to pay a fee. Coming Events

Title:
Phonological · Description: There is little research and information to guide intervention for cognitively impaired students. Teaching reading is often left to chance or fragmented approaches. The current study used phonological awareness and visual recognition to facilitate reading decoding and encoding. The intervention techniques and results of this approach will be shared. · Objectives: At the conclusion of this session, participants will: o Review reading programs/approaches for cognitively impaired students. o Understand the basis of and intervention techniques associated with a phonological/orthographic approach to teach base level reading skills. o
Review the effectiveness of phonological/orthographic pairing to
aid reading decoding and encoding with cognitively impaired adolescents. ·

Peoria Area Speech-Language-Hearing Association is an approved continuing education sponsor through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. This program is offered for 2 continuing education hours (0.2 CEUs). These CE hours qualify for Illinois license renewal as well as required hours of Continuing Professional Development for ASHA; however, CE hours provided by IDPR will not count towards the ASHA Award for Continuing Education (ACE).
